ONLY IN AMERICA - Martina Navratilova, known as much for her lesbianism as for her tennis, upstaged both Novak Djokovic and Keri Nishikori at the U. S. Open when Navratilova proposed to her long-time girlfriend, Julia Lemigova."
The magic moment was caught on the event's gigantic screen, displaying the proposal for millions of tennis fans around the world, whether they cared to see one woman's offer to marry another or not.
Fortunately, for Navratilova, Lemigova said "yes," and, after inserting an engagement ring in the bride-to-be's labia, to ensure her fiancee's "chastity," Navratilova planted a wet one on her future wife's lips.
Playing the part of the man, Navratilova dropped to one knee and popped the question.
Although some fans cheered, others retched, and all agreed that the lesbian couple's engagement was not what they'd paid to see.
More miffed than anyone else were the men who had just battled for victory on center court.
"This should have been our moment," Djokovic said.
"Instead, Navratilova made it all about her," Nishikori agreed.
The couple are planning to wed in Florida, as soon as they get the state to legalize their kind of "marriage."
