There was annoyance on a grand scale this morning when an Englishman living in the Thai capital of Bangkok took four attempts to successfully pick up a hair from the floor.
The hair, one of the few that are left on the head of Moys Kenwood, 48, had detached itself from his cranium during the night, and had blown onto the floor with the aid of the fan, which he leaves on because it's boiling.
As he stooped to pick up the hair from the floor, Kenwood felt a tiny twinge of pain in his left side, and wasn't able to fully extend his arm down to reach for the hair, and was forced to pull up short.
A second lunge ended in a similar way, and a third attempt was also unsuccessful when his eye was distracted by an ant, which he flattened with the palm of his hand.
It wasn't until a fourth concerted effort that he finally managed to grasp the hair pincer-like with his index finger and thumb.
Said the man to me later:
"I was on the point of just leaving it where it was, but I got it in the end."
