Oklahoma will soon be one of the few states left with legalized exorcism.

In a victory for religious libertarians, Oklahoma has passed the Family Religion And Re-Education Act, designed to keep exorcism, the casting out of demons, legal.

Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern sponsored the legislation that protects family and friends who decide someone needs exorcism. The new law also protects the exorcists themselves.

"This law preserves the religious freedom of our families to be able to protect their loved ones," Rep. Kern said. She explained how the law will help families, "Of course if you are possessed, or even just learning about Islam or Hinduism, you will not know that you need help, and will not submit to an exorcism: that's why families need this protection."

A representative from the local Catholic Archdiocese, Monsignor Chase Boyston, said the legislation doesn't go far enough, "It's too bad the law does not say who can perform exorcisms, they should only be performed by a priest who has special permission from the church."

The danger for someone looking for an exorcist, Boyston says is, "You have all of these fraudulent practitioners out there who do no investigation, just wave some crosses around, then say some Latin verses, and then they claim they have released you from demons."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
