Harry Maguire, the fresh-faced, good-looking golden boy of English football, who signed for Manchester United for £80million from Leicester City on Monday, says he might buy some new football boots, as a special treat to himself for becoming the most expensive defender in history.
Maguire, 26, who has, until now turned out in boots made by Nike, told reporters that, since he became richer than he could ever have imagined in his wildest dreams, there is no reason whatsoever why he shouldn't let his hair down a little, and get some new boots.
"I've always fancied a pair of Adidas, to be honest, and I'm going to go into town with Fern on Friday to look for some."
There is an isssue, however:
"I don't know what colour to buy. I quite like white, but red might be a good idea now I've signed for United. Or green. There's too much choice these days!"
But, after an afternoon's shopping, the strapping lad and his girlfriend are always hungry for a bite to eat. He laughed:
"We might have our dinner out as well, if there's a Greggs."
