Comedienne, Jo Brand, has rejected criticism of a joke she made about battery acid, by asserting that she drinks a glass of it every morning for breakfast, and it's never done her any harm.
Brand was appearing on BBC Radio 4's 'Heresy' show hosted by David Baddiel when she made the quip, which suggested that anyone thinking of throwing a milkshake over a politician, might like to consider using something a bit stronger.
As usual, there was outrage.
Sixty-five people complained to Ofcom.
But Miss Brand said:
"Muppets! The joke was crass and ill-judged, or, at least, that's what the BBC told me to say. I'm a comedienne - saying things that aren't crass, or that are well-judged, doesn't put bums on seats."
She went on to say:
"Some people like orange juice, or grapefruit juice, or even prune juice, for breakfast. That's up to them. I like to guzzle down a glass of battery acid. It's made me what I am."
Mr Baddiel commented that:
"I didn't realise we had that many listeners!"
