In another story that, frankly, takes a lot of believing, but which is absolutely true, a man driving a motorbike home from the pub had to stop and ask people for directions to his house, as he couldn't find it.
The incident happened in the Battambang commune of Tapon at 8:15pm on Saturday evening, just as a woman was packing away her stuff, after selling barbecued chicken outside her house.
A motorcycle approached from the direction of the town, and stopped by a group of people laboring over their chicken. The rider, clearly the worse for wear, asked in Khmer:
"I'm lost. Where's my house?"
The sitting group roared with laughter.
"You've passed your house," someone said. "You live back up that way."
"Where?" asked the man. "It's dark. I can't see."
People pointed.
After much comical muttering, and more outbursts of incredulous laughter at the man's inability to recognize his own house, one of the diners drove him the 200 yards back along the road, then walked back to finish his chicken. He told the others that the man had said:
"Oh, I didn't miss it by much!"
