BILLINGSGATE POST: Inexplicably, when Joe Biden called a woman a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier” at a campaign stop in New Hampshire in February, he may have not known the origin of this line.
Biden’s spokesman said the line comes from a John Wayne film - but it’s not clear if it does. There is a 1952 shit-kicker western called Pony Soldier, but John Wayne isn’t in it. Also, no one is called a "lying dog-faced pony soldier" in the movie. However, there is a line where Chief Piss Against The Wind says, "Pony soldier speak with a tongue of the snake that rattles."
In his memoirs, the Chief said he was misquoted. What he actually told the soldier was, "Pony soldier speak with fork tongue." He further explains:
“Me talk to pony soldier because he ride side-saddle. Only squaw ride side-saddle. He say he no squaw.”
Slim: “Chief no fool. Me think he know pony soldier have no leg to stand on.”
Dirty: “Yo, Dude. No wonder pony soldier ride side-saddle.”
