BILLINGSGATE POST: In a bi-lateral agreement that circumvents the tariffs that President Trump said he would impose on Mexico if they didn’t stop the flow of illegals flooding our borders, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo announced today that an agreement has been reached that would help both Trump and Mexico President Lopez Obrador understand the complexity of each other’s problem.
Trading jobs and wives is not without precedent. Indeed, back in the early 1970’s, two New York Yankee baseball players made history of sorts when they swapped wives and families so that their lives could be enriched. The teammates, Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, found themselves in a situation that was unbelievable, even to themselves.
According to Kekich, “Don’t say this was wife swapping. We didn’t swap wives, we swapped lives.”
Both Trump and Obrador have extraordinarily beautiful wives, which helped to make the trade equitable. Both men had traded up once or twice before as their former wives had outlived their looks and utility. The job equation was more difficult to solve. Each President had his perks and problems.
But as Secretary of State Pompeo related to the press: “We were at an impasse. Neither President would back off. President Trump was ready to implement his tariffs, and President Obrador said he would stop the flow of Tequila if necessary to prove his steel-like resolve. What to do?”
Footnote: Both Melania Trump and Beatriz Gutierrez Muller, the wife of the President of Mexico, have veto rights over this agreement. More to follow.....
