Tehran, Iran - (Dire Straits of Hormuz): Iranian fashionistas are up in arms after their president was ordered to get a sartorial make-over by Tehran’s notorious Gast-e-Ersad morality police.
An entry in their FarsiFarceBook page has slammed President Rouhani’s white cheesecloth turban for looking like a nod to a ‘stupid, Meghan Markle pillbox’ - something he bitterly denies.
Markle recently wore Iranian milliner Mhad Hattah’s $10 felt confection to a Buckingham Palace garden party commemorating the 1885 Siege of Khartoum.
Rouhani, 69, says he feels stung by the comparison and has issued a counter attack.
“Markle’s ditsy white headgear was worn as sign of respect,” the ayatollah tweeted this morning after Iranian Revolutionary Guard style counsel honchos said they gave her the pillbox as a wedding present.
That’s something the confused poor old dear vehemently denies.
The spat has seen an escalation in international millinery diplomacy because the farsi word for ‘pill box’ has a controversial double meaning, suggesting a drugs cache.
The late Shah of Iran’s bookmaker may also be part of the plot.
