The national media in an unusual sign of restraint is reporting that President Donald Trump spoke powerfully on Tuesday when he signed the necessary documents to withdraw from the Iran nuclear treaty. There is behind the scenes speculation among many in the industry that the restraint is due to fear that Trump would cancel the broadcast medias certifications to broadcast if they reported differently.
CNN and MSNBC both have praised Trump's performance as studied, serious and meaningful.
"He spoke with an air of elegance and determination," said Wolf Blitzer on CNN . "He stood with the demeanor of a roman emperor leading his troops into battle," said Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC.
Those in attendance sat in hushed silence as Trump spoke.
One journalist noted, "He seemed even taller and broader of shoulder, his face glowed with a light and he gestured and turned as if talking to a legion of thousands."
"When the president finished, he turned and slowly walked to the door into the White House. His eyes had a faraway look to them and he paused at the door lifting his head as to the heavens," said another correspondent.
In related news, a source speaking on the condition of anonymity has told the Associated Press that a member of the White House housekeeping staff was in a linen closet in the hall leading to the Oval Office. She told the AP that when Trump closed the door behind him and started to walk to his office, he appeared as if he was in a trance, his eyes were glazed over and he walked slowly with his head raised skywards. "But" she added, "the lower half of his body was undulating as if in an uncontrolled spasm."
She said to the journalist, "OMG, he was dry humping the air!"
