Gerard signs for BarcelonaSteven Gerard, the Liverpool Captain, has joined Spanish giants for a fee believed to be over £100million
The midfield dynamo was left out of the Champions League quarter final second leg at Chelsea tonight apparently to recover from injury and be available to continue in the Premiership challenge. This proved a fallacy as tonight Liverpool announced that the England player had been in talks with Barcelona and had been offered a deal which neither he nor Liverpool FC could turn down.
Gerard has won every domestic honour bar the Premiership, and it is thought that he would not play for another English club so has therefore decided to try to win a league title in Europe.
Shellshocked fans are already gathering outside Anfield in disbelief and are awaiting any further information on their locally born hero. A statement to the media will be made at lunchtime on Wednesday.
