Alan Shearer has today resigned from the post of temporary Newcastle FC manager.
The announcement came at a press conference this morning in which he in effect admitted that the whole thing had been an April Fool's prank that had gotten somewhat out of hand.
Explaining the background to the appointment, Shearer described, "Mike Ashley had called me on the morning of April the 1st and asked me to take on the position. I thought he was pranking me so I agreed, expecting him to admit the joke. However before I knew what was happening, he had called a press conference and made the announcement. I went along with it, thinking he was about to come clean however next thing I know I am picking the team against Chelsea."
"I am deeply sorry for the situation that this has created and do hope that the Newcastle fans still adore me."
This is of course not the first time that Shearer's pranks have caused issues, he of course recently convinced Joe Kinnear that Charles N'Zogbia's real surname was Insomnia.
