Sir Elton John, who fans of Watford Football Club hold in the highest esteem, after saving the Hornets from ruin in the 1980s, is a controversial figure tonight, after denying ever having anything whatsoever to do with the Vicarage Road outfit.
This comes hard on the heels of today's 8-0 trouncing at the hands of the champions, Manchester City, the same team that put six goals past Watford in the FA Cup final in May.
Sir Elton said:
"It wasn't me. I think it was another bloke who looks a bit like me."
Sources close to the club, however, say Sir Elton was the club's saviour, but that he may have shunned them due to their shocking run of form, which has left them at the foot of the Premier League.
This latest embarrassment is just the topping on a very unappetising cake.
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, said:
"Can we play Watford every week?"
