The very first real images of a black hole taken by the Event Horizon Telescope last week, seem to confirm that black holes are very much the sort of thing scientists had expected them to be - holes that are black.
It was already known that black holes had a gravitational force so strong that even particles of light could not escape them, and, although the pictures were pretty, nothing new and astonishing has yet come to light.
One scientist at NASA reacted to the image by saying:
"It's a really exciting image that will help us to further understand the nature of black holes, the circumstances under which they come into being, what's going on inside them, and other interesting scientific stuff that I haven't got time to go into right now."
But amateur scientist, Moys Kenwood, said:
"It's a hole, and it's black. The scientists should now be trying to calculate how near to it Donald Trump has to be placed, so that he doesn't feature in the 2020 presidential election."
