State and Territory Transport Departments have issued an urgent recall of cars made by all popular manufacturers.
The Federal Government is coordinating the recall but leaving the administrative and practical details to State and Territory governments.
All targeted vehicles have the same safety issues. In each case vehicles have been found to be have defective indicators and speedometers.
Federal Transport Supremo, Reg Dingli, said, "All these cars have the same problem, mate. Flashers and speedos.
"We just can't have all these cars changing lanes without signalling and driving like there's no speed signs on our roads!
"It's really really unsafe."
Asked whether other vehicle makes would be subject to recall, the Transport Supremo replied, "Oh yes! Don't imagine for a single second that any car is safe from our watchful gaze, oh dearie no!"
It is believed members of the public will be encouraged to report vehicle makes with defective indicators and/or speedometers.
