Don't tell Vladimir Putin, but he is losing his war in Ukraine. Quoting the John Cleese line to Kevin Kline about the Vietnam war in the film, A Fish Called Wanda: "I'm tellin' ya baby, they kicked your little ass there. Boy, they whooped yer hide REAL GOOD."
To paraphrase the John Cleese line: The Ukrainians are kicking Russia's little ass straight out of Ukraine. But, of course, in the film, John Cleese was referencing the little ass of the USA. Ouch!
Nevertheless, Ukraine is pushing Putin's army back home across the border and into Russia. They are even threatening to retake Crimea. Unlike the Kevin Kline character in the film, whose feet were stuck in cement, Putin is stuck in his losing war. An advancing steamroller doesn't threaten him, as was the Kevin Kline character.
But something's coming for Putin.
Putin is facing protesters rioting against the war in dozens of Russian cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg; hundreds of Russian soldiers surrender to Ukraine, while generals fall out of top-floor buildings.
The film had a happy ending, but in real life, Putin's conclusion does not appear that promising. Besides war crimes, he will lose the billion-dollar palace he erected near the Black Sea.
But don't tell Putin.
