"This is what happens when you quit Putin!"

A former Putin official who quit working for Putin's government in protest of Putin's war in Ukraine was hospitalized with a rare neurological disorder. Unlike accidentally falling out of a 5th story window, ex-Putin advisor Anatoly Chubais is sick and suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Hospitalized in a European hospital (whew) and out of Russia (more whew), his wife reported that Mr. Chubais was feeling just excellent (good, good) and suddenly lost feeling in both his arms and legs (uh-oh).

It sounds like the long arm of Vladimir Putin reached him in Europe. But, hopefully, it wasn't again at London's Millennium Hotel.

Ask to comment about Mr. Chubais's sudden illness, and the Kremlin spokesman said it was "Sad news." Now, that doesn't sound very sympathetic. So did the Kremlin send flowers?

Chubais quit his environment job in March because of Putin's war in Ukraine and left the country. He was a Yeltsin man and appointed as his Minister of Finance in the 1990s. Besides being critical of the invasion of Ukraine, he also called for economic reform.

Reforms? Economic reforms? Not so easy to do while Putin is building his castles, buying $700M supper-yachts, and helping to finance his oligarch supporters.
