WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Obama has announced today that he is asking the entire Harlem Globetrotters team to visit North Korea as goodwill ambassadors, along with a special exhibition team composed of the best of the U.S. Armed Forces basketball players.
"If anyone can work goodwill in Dictator Kim Jong-un's heart, it is the Harlem Globetrotters," explained President Obama. "We already know he likes basketball since he has invited Dennis Rodman over to visit several times. The last time Rodman visited there, he took three Harlem Globetrotters with him. We figure the time may be ripe for a lot more of our elite basketball players to make the trip."
The Harlem Globetrotters are an exhibition team that uses humor and athletic ability to entertain fans. They have played over 20,000 exhibition games in 120 countries and are well-loved throughout the world.
"We are working on negotiating an invitation from North Korea for the Globetrotters and our own Armed Forces' exhibition team. The decision is obviously 'in their ball court'," concluded the President.
Ping Pong Diplomacy was utilized by President Nixon in the early 1970's and historians feel it helped bring the Bamboo Curtain down.
