"Dr. Markus. Paging Dr. Markus."

Los Angeles, California - In what some are calling a testimony of true love, hope and faith, others are calling the brief marriage of between, Carlos Gomez and Cynthia Sanchez, nothing less than a modern retelling of the timeless tale of Romeo and Juliet with a twist.

"Shortly before pronouncing them man and wife, the same Catholic priest read them their last rights," said David Markus, the ICU attending physician. "Good thing too, because as the groom reached out to lift the veil to kiss his new bride, he caught sight of a pair of pale blue lips, cold to the touch."

Attending physicians, however, just stood by watching as the groom pleaded with them to revive his new bride.

"We were helpless to do anything about it," said Dr. Markus. "We're bound by our medical ethics to do nothing."

Carrying out Sanchez's advanced medical directory not to be revived, physicians and nurses just looked on as Gomez embraced his expired bride. Her head rolling about her shoulders, legs dangling inches off the floor and arms flopping at her sides.

However, the groom had designs of his own and quickly started preformed CPR on his bride's lifeless body, successfully reviving her without any medical assistance.

"Gomez had to revive his new bride several more times as she continued to pass away throughout the reception, the dollar dance and when she attempted to throw out her bouquet of flowers to her bridesmaids and other ICU patients," said Dr. Markus.

Unfortunately, as the groom was emptying his colostomy bag, trusting guests in the ER to keep an eye on Mrs. Sanchez, Gomez returned to find his bride missing, though he was gone for a few minutes.

Later, Gomez located his bride in the hospital's morgue down in the basement. Her dead body laying prone on a hospital gurney, face covered with a white sheet and a toe tag already attached. Only that did not assuage Gomez as he climbed up on the hospital gurney to revive his bride one last time.

"We found your husband's lifeless body on top of you," said Dr. Markus, explaining to the newly widowed Mrs. Gomez what happened to her husband. "Apparently, he suffered a fatal heart attack attempting to revive you one last time when the weight of his body collapsing on you restarted your heart again, returning it to a normal sinus rhythm, saving your life."

Once released from the hospital, Sanchez had her marriage to Gomez annulled on the grounds that it was never consummated and shortly thereafter married Dr. Markus.

"She'll be a handful. No doubt," said Dr. Markus, describing Sanchez as high maintenance.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
