The California Supreme Court's decision to uphold the state's gay-marriage ban won't affect George Takei's marriage, but the actor is still unhappy with the ruling.
"It will ultimately reach the Supreme Court I guess", stated "Sulu".
Although the court upheld Proposition 8 that banned gay marriage, the ruling held that the nearly 18,000 marriages that took place before the vote, including Mr. Takei's September 14th wedding to longtime partner Brad Altman, are still valid. Takei said the ruling is extremely silly.
"So it comes down to WHEN you were married, not if."
"At least it makes our kids legitimate. Snooky or Brad is expecting our third."
"It was a ruling that doesn't resolve anything because there is still inequality. It's like something out of our old Star Trek episodes."
Takei also stated that he would be happy if there were gay "Parriages" that exempted heterosexuals.
"Can you image all those heterosexual couples who don't want to get married but live together and ask if they can be enter a 'Pairage' ceremony and be ruled against by the courts?"
Asked if gays can marry, could a hillbilly then marry his hog, Takei smiled and said, "Only on the ninth planet of Star #45 in the Andromeda Galaxy!"
