A Chicago-area teenage girl, who, according to her parents, hasn't put down her smartphone in 4 years, recently put her device down and picked up a book.
"I was shocked," said the girl's father, Neil Withers, about the seeing his daughter with a book instead of a device in her hands. "I just thought she was never going to get off that thing."
Stacy and Neil Withers gave their daughter, Amber, a smartphone as a junior high graduation present four years ago. According to them, it didn't take very long for their daughter to be enamored by the thing.
Now, with high school graduation just around the corner, Stacy Withers is glad her daughter finally put that thing down. "We were getting ready to just take her senior pictures with her looking at her phone."
Neil Withers admitted that he wasn't sure how to feel when he saw his daughter with a book in her hands instead of a smartphone. "I didn't know if I should've been more relieved she finally put that thing down, or more surprised that she actually knew what a book was."
