JACKSON, Mississippi - The Mississippi senate has just passed a bill that makes it illegal for anyone to shoot catfish with a shotgun.
State Senator Roy LeRoy Witchboro, 64, [R-Pascagoula] informed the news media that the bill passed by a vote of 39-13.
Senator Witchboro, who is an avid fisherman, stated that he just cannot figure out how some good old Mississippi boys can figure that shooting catfish with a shotgun is sporting.
He went on to add that he has eaten catfish that had been shot with a shotgun and it ain't no fun. He said you have to be spitting out bb's with just about every bite.
The divorced senator who is engaged to his much younger secretary Lily Beth Harkenfeldt, 33, said that he has only eaten shotgun shot catfish twice and that was twice times too many.
When asked what he attributes the fact that some individuals would rather shoot catfish with a shotgun than catch them with a rod and reel the senator replied, "It's all out of laziness - damn, pure, plum, pitiful laziness."
