The issue of whether or not to ordain openly gay ministers has been exercising the minds of most of the attendees at the annual Church of Scotland General Assembly.
In 2009 the ordination of the Reverend Scott Rennie split the church in view of his admission that he was in a gay relationship.
But a source close to the Assembly admitted that an increasing number of ministers were becoming convinced that the church should be encouraging more inclusion in the ordination process.
"Many aren't surprised that joining the Church of Scotland is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition.
"After all, aren't ministers' vestments bound to appeal to the more camp elements in society?
"And, if you take a close look at how ministers perform the benediction at the end of service, when they're saying 'Father, Son and Holy Ghost', they could just as well be doing the 'YMCA'."
