Oxford Street had to be closed today after a water fight organised through a social networking sit spilled over onto the streets. 1,500 people attended, and the fight which started at 1pm raged on until 9pm.
Police were forced to move in and stop the incident, as the revellers were using water from the Thames to fuel the fight; by 8pm they had received urgent calls from Thames River shipping to say that the water levels had reduced to such an extent that keels were scraping the bottom.
In a bizarre move London Fire Brigade were called to pump water back into the Thames in order to avert a disaster. Asked if Police should not have stopped things earlier, Sergeant McDroughty replied "don't talk wet!"
