Scotland Yard detectives investigating the "cash for honours" affair handed over their main evidence file to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The Metropolitan Police said the 216-page document was handed over together with supporting material.
The Met said in a statement: "It is now a matter for the CPS to consider how they will lose this information, we tried several times, but people kept finding it and bringing it back to us"
The CPS feel more confident in their abilities at losing sensitive documents "we have been losing stuff for years, child porn cases against high ranking government officials being one of our best efforts, as well as that call girl scandal with…oops I nearly let the cat out of the bag there"
