As the country reels from the revelations that senior government personnel, including the Prime Minister Tony Blair, have been grilled by police, A new twist was revealed today.
According to sources, Lord 'Cashpoint' Levey, himself arrested in connection with the enquiry into Cash for Peerages, had seduced Mohammed Al Fayed, owner of Harrods mini mart, into a multi million pound loan arrangement in exchange for what the London shopkeeper thought was a 'fast track' to the upper house.
Taking advantage of Mr Al Fayed's determination to equip himself with the most British of trappings, in order to convince the Home Office that he is indeed 5th in line to the throne and fully entitled to a passport, Lord Levey allegedly sold the Knightsbridge grocer, Great Yarmouth, Cromer and Southend Piers.
It is not thought that the police are interested in the alleged fraud involving Mr. Al Fayed, the Chief Constable is thought to have told reporters today that he (Al Fayed) had it coming.
Mr Al Fayed was angry and asserted that he believed that it was Buckingham Palace behind the plot.
Seasiders were reassured that the train on Southend pier will continue running as will the 2007 summer special starring Les Dennis at Great Yarmouth.
