Disgraced France football star Nicolas Anelka is preparing this morning to set sail for French Guiana aboard a prison ship bound for the penal colony of Devil's Island.
The island is the place to where Hollywood stars Steve McQueen - wrongly accused of murder - and Dustin Hoffman were sent in 1931. McQueen spent 14 years there before managing to escape in 1945, after which, he spent the rest of his life in Venezuela, free from the French justice system. Hoffman remains on the island.
Chelsea player Anelka was sent home from the World Cup on Saturday after a bust-up with the French team boss Raymond Domenech which resulted in several of the squad childishly lowering their bottom lips.
The team has since gone on hunger strike.
