It was another bad day at the office for Hull City manager Phil Brown yesterday, after his side were beaten 1-0 at the KC Stadium by newly-promoted Birmingham City, but worse was to follow.
Brown, already under-fire from fans, was told by the proprietors of several of the city's tanning salons, that he was no longer welcome at their establishments.
The City boss is well-known amongst opposing supporters as 'a bit of a prat', and this reputation is not enhanced by his orange skin colour, a look he has achieved after spending countless hours under ultraviolet rays on sunbeds all over East Yorkshire.
Yesterday's loss was the Tigers' fourth from six games, and leaves them teetering in 18th spot. Tigers fans have been calling for his sacking, but chairman Paul Duffen won't budge, saying Brown must be given the opportunity to make good his mistakes, and get City "out of the shit".
But after such an abysmal start to the campaign, and with Brown getting more and more orange with every week that passes, owners of tanning salons all across Hull spoke out last night, barring the South Shields dolt from their premises. Managers at Tanique on Hedon Road, Sundeck on Marfleet Lane, La Creme in Hedon and all three of the Tanfastic Sun Centres have now told Brown he cannot use their facilities anymore. The manager of one of the Tanfastic salons, who wished to remain nameless, told us:
"He's always in here. If he spent as much time sorting the team's problems out as he does in here toning his ruddy complexion, City would be halfway up the league!"
