City: still in the Cup

There were celebrations at the KC Stadium today, when Premier League newboys Hull City progressed through to the last five of the FA Cup for the first time in 79 years.

The Tigers and their fans sat on the edge of their seats as Arsenal and Burnley fought out their 5th round tie, with the Gunners finishing 3-0 winners to earn themselves a quarter-final berth against Hull, who have already won at the Emirates earlier this season.

It was back in September when Phil Brown's men beat Arsenal 2-1 with a Geovanni wonderstrike and a Daniel Cousin header, and they will be hoping to turn the home side over once again.

City's best run in the FA Cup came back in 1930 when they reached the semi-final, also against Arsenal. The Tigers lost 1-0 in a replay after the first match had ended in a 2-2 draw, but Brown is hopeful that his team can emerge victorious from the upcoming fixture, and progress from the last five into the last four.

In the sixth round, Everton beat Middlesbrough 2-1 to line up a semi-final tussle with Manchester United.

Said the Hull boss:

"There were seven teams still in the Cup this afternoon, and it was important for us to progress into the last five. The day has gone as well as we could've expected, and the players have done ever-so-well. I'm proud of them - it was a great result, and a fantastic achievement to get into the last five."
