Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has spoken to reporters about the disappointment he experienced this morning, when he went downstairs to make his breakfast, picked up a newspaper to read the football pages, and realised that his team can no longer win the Premier League title.
United are in fifth position, on 41 points, and trail leaders, Liverpool, on 79 points, by a massive 38 points.
With both teams having played 27 matches, and, having only 11 games left to play, even an idiot can see that United - with an aboslute maximum of 33 points available to them - cannot catch their Merseyside rivals. Solskjaer, however, only just figured this out for himself in his kitchen earlier today.
The Norwegian said:
"I knew the gap was a big one, but, I thought, if we tried our hardest, and played our best, we could put in a late surge, and, if Liverpool lost every one of their last 11 games, we could pip them at the post. It seems that's no longer possible."
United captain, Harry Maguire, squinted, then raised his eyebrows.
