Rovers denied by last-gasp conversion

Funny story written by Joe Leff

Saturday, 31 December 2011

There was a dramatic end to a keenly-fought rugby match against local rivals Hull F.C. when Hull Kingston Rovers ran out of time after a late conversion.

With only two minutes left, Rovers were trailing by just one point as their full-back was getting ready for a goal kick. Then suddenly it all went quiet before thousands of fans held their breath and rose from their seats.

Amongst the capacity crowd, Pope Benedict had made a surprise visit to Craven Park. The Pope used this opportunity to convert several thousand agitated fans to Catholicism. By the time the Pope had finished, time had run out for Rovers.

After the final hooter went, the Pope blessed the crowd again, and left the stadium to a standing ovation from Hull F.C. supporters, and boos galore from the Rovers end.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
