The Solstice belongs to us all. But the Christians stole it to grow their religion.
After the Solstice - every day takes us closer to a beautiful Spring and Summer - and away from rain and snow.
Here at the Olde Church we plant a tree every Solstice Christmas - Said Boris Blathering. We have friends who own a tree farm.
We would plant trees around Stonehenge - where they also celebrated the Winter Solstice - but the authorities guard it like a prison.
The early Christians stole the Winter Solstice to make it seem Christ was born at Xmas - (they just moved days around)

But the Gospel Luke clearly says Shepherds were in the fields with the sheep when Christ was born. It was in the mild Spring when baby lambs are also born. That is why the Shepherds were able to troop over to the Manger so quickly. (They saw the Wise Men and thought there was a party going on).
Anyway, the early Christians wanted the Roman drunken December Holiday for recruiting. (You can more easily sign people up for a Weird new religion when they are inebriated). Then the next day it's 'what's this cross tattoo on my wrist? My Master's going to kill me. '
So, the Christian Holiday was born in Rome with Drunkenness, Debauchery, and Gift Giving. Not too much different from today.
Here at the Church, we try to keep it respectable - but partying 70-year-olds on Hard Cider can be just as bad as the Romans.
