Following his success in getting $5billion for his border wall, President Trump once again is threatening to shut down the federal government, this time over his demand that the U.S. Mint issue quarters, half dollars and silver dollars stamped with his likeness. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have labelled this demand a “childish act of vanity.” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to say whether he will bring such a bill to a vote.
Associated Press, March 21, 2019. Now that Congress has approved the issuance of coinage bearing his image, President Trump is again threatening to shut down the federal government. The issue this time is his insistence that all public school cafeterias use paper plates embossed with the words “Trump in 2020: Make America Great Again.”

President Trump has tweeted that he is prepared to shut down the government again unless the Democrats in the House agree to wear T-shirts that bear the message, “Voting for us means an immigrant will take your job!” A photo showing Nancy Pelosi wearing such a shirt went viral on social media, despite a press release from her office denouncing the photo as doctored. The President then followed up with another tweet that said, simply, “Haha! April Fool!”
