Samuel L Jackson is superb as Big John

Before he became famous as the director of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino had already made a movie, but up until recently, he had managed to keep it quiet. Called Pimp Friction is was pornography of the most base nature.

After losing his laptop containing the entire film, in a home invasion in 2007, Tarantino's film was released onto the internet by the thieves. With the film 'out there' Tarantino has opted to remake the film using his current contacts and budgets.

Set in 1970s Baltimore, the film stars Samuel L Jackson and Uma Thurman, two actors Tarantino has worked with before, as well as popular singer, P!nk. Jackson stereotypically plays a pimp called Big John in an ironic look at the movie portrayal of pimps during the seventies, whilst Thurman is his 'finder', the woman who locates the girls for him. In the opening scene he is debasing P!nk's character, 'Candy', initiating her into the life of the street walker whilst Thurman watches on.

At times bloody, and at times touching, this film shows P!nk's descent into a seedy world, pushed and guided by Jackson. There are disturbing scenes of drug taking and the frequent explicit sexual scenes are compelling and arousing. P!nk gives a good impression of somebody who is actually enjoying the life she didn't choose, whilst Thurman becomes obsessed with bedding P!nk, something she eventually does.

The acting is sublime, the camera work exceptional and the atmosphere for what is basically a pornographic film puts this as a classic of it's genre. There are over sixty explicit sexual encounters in this film covering just about every perversion, and yet Tarantino still manages to throw in his trademark shocks and gore.

However, it's a porno, and I have to give it just one spoof star for fear of looking like a pervert.
