The Vatican has condemned the proposal to patch the ozone layer with a latex sheet.
"We feel this project by NASA is nothing more than putting a huge condom in the sky." Said some religious nutter in Rome.
The experiment which will begin by the end of 2010 has garnered praise throughout the world, well except for the Vatican obviously.
"I mean it is simply repairing the Earth's virginity isn't it". Said a Vatican spokes-bishop. "We're fixing the hymen of space and that is against the wishes of god."
Despite the Catholic Church's objections the proposed repair will continue on schedule. Although many protest groups have been organised to stand in space to wave placards and shout insults at the astronauts.
A NASA spokes-boffin was irate at the holy commotion. "What do they want, Space AIDS to rain down on us?" He growled.
