Phu Quoc, Cambodia - (Extraterrestrial Mess): Vietnam's air force has shot down an ominous-looking UFO that had been spotted hovering menacingly in its sovereign airspace.
"We think some mischevious extraterrestrial bastards were about to nuke us, and took evasive action," was the official Vietnamese military response to reports of the strange aerial phenomenon.
Defense Ministry officials gave the order for destruction after reports it was identical to a craft seen above Sichuan just hours before a deadly 7.2 magnitude quake struck the Chinese province.
"This was no crop-circle field-etcher," Colonel Nguyen Van Qui of Phu Quoc Island Council said today.
"Neither was it a friendly, cosmic warning of imminent danger."
The charred remnants of the UFO have been taken away for anaylsis by Vietnam's Jet Convulsion Laboratory.
A follow-up statement is expected shortly.
