Recent earthquakes in China have led to a shortage of hardhats for rescue workers. Ingeniously Chinese officials have diverted all factory production of Tupperware salad bowls in Sinkiang province to meet the shortfall.
Factory managers in the Sinkiang are credited with discovering that Tupperware Salad Bowl No. 4, designed to hold an entire head of iceberg lettuce, is an exact match for the standard Sino cranium fortuitously allowing rescue workers to protect their noggin during the crisis.
Newsreels worldwide clearly demonstrate the clever use of salad bowls as helmets as thousands of rescue workers carry on with the dangerous and grisly task of sorting through the rubble for survivors.
Chinese officials say "the opacity of the Tupperware is quite suitable to absorb harmful ultraviolet rays that may prove disadvantageous to the livelihood of well meaning good heart Chinese volunteers that make proud victorious Olympic goal of China."
The Red Cross has donated decals to affix to the Tupperware helmets to designate face front on the bowls and assist in discouraging use of the helmets for making salads.
