Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes has received a three year prison sentence for tax offences, but the conviction had nothing to do with the court's perception of him as a rich "uppity nigger".
A federal judge handed down the maximum term requested by prosecutors - one year for each of Snipes' convictions of wilfully failing to file a tax return.
Snipes' lawyers had called for leniency, arguing that the offences were relatively minor misdemeanours, and that the star was of good character and unlikely flee to anywhere his Blade films haven't generated high ticket sales and visibility.
But prosecutors said an example should be set because of Snipe's fame.
Prosecutors assured reporters that the conviction had nothing to do with the fact that Snipes is black, rich or drives a more expensive car than anyone else in the courtroom.
In a related story, equally famous California governor and action star Arnold Schwarzenegger will be prosecuted and imprisoned for past steroid abuse, Martha Stewart for insider stock trading, and George W. Bush for trafficking in cocaine in the 1980s.
