London (Phantom Press) - Our community correspondent has seen a secret document and apparently one Chief Constable is thinking of placing an order for 50,000 'plastic bobbies'.
Now don't get this wrong we aren't talking about the same useless 'plastic bobbies' that stood by while a lad drowned this week but full size real 'plastic bobbies'.
It seems a Chinese factory is ready to knock them off the production line. The only delay at the moment is making sure a sub contractor has not used lead paint due to health and safety issues.
It seems 'plastic bobbies' would be ideal at accident spots along our roads with hand held scanners in place. Most road users know where the fixed cameras are but they get more fearful when they see bobbies with their mobile scanners. They could also be used in the foyer of a bank to deter robbers and placed on top of buildings in town centres. If cost was not an issue they would eventually be motorised with limited movement.
After a recent poll the general consensus is most people would see little difference between manufactured 'plastic bobbies' and the community support officers out there now.
