A duckling that was the victim of a callous and unprovoked attack by a cockerel not yet two weeks ago, (TheSpoof.com 9 Dec) is making a rather splendid recovery, and is now able to stand on its own two feet again.
The cockerel had attacked the much smaller and defenceless duckling by stamping on its legs and breaking them, leaving it crippled - or so it was thought.
During the last couple of days, the duckling has made remarkable progress in its recovery, and has been seen hobbling to its feet, and shuffling along, with a marked improvement.
This has come all too late for the cockerel, however, who was savagely dealt with at the time, and wasn't around earlier to congratulate the duckling on its apparent return to good health.
The duckling's condition is being monitored, and will continue to be monitored over the next month or so, after which it will probably be sold to someone whose family are ravenous, and eager to eat it.
