The crisis in Hong Kong deepened still further today as the island's leader, Carrie Lam, having been forced to abandon her policy address when members of parliament disrupted her speech and drowned out her voice with heckling, took the most drastic action she could think of, and called for assistance from Hong Kong Phooey.
Hong Kong Phooey - or HKP - is the crime-fighting secret identity of canine, Penrod 'Penry' Pooch, a janitor at an unnamed US police station, who helps the authorities solve crimes in the city by jumping into a filing cabinet, donning his HKP uniform, and traversing the city in his Phooeymobile.
Any success HKP achieves, is always down to the intervention of his cat, Spot.
Lam has a major problem in Hong Kong. Protests have gone on for months, and, even though the protesters achieved their primary aim in having an extradition bill withdrawn, things have escalated, making the authorities on mainland China very irritable.
The financial sector, airport, and tourism have been affected, though the main concern for Beijing is the view the rest of the world will have of the situation.
HKP arrived in HK this morning, clasping his copy of 'The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu' a correspondence-course martial-arts instruction handbook, close to his chest.
