Yesterday, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-religious Organization left the religious community stunned by providing living proof of biological evolution.
In an interview with a certain broadcast journalist, IRO president, Br. Harrypersad Maharaj, along with his colleagues Imam Hajij Afzal Mohammed and Spiritual Baptist Archbishop, Barbara Burke, explained why the Marriage acts allowing young girls to be married from as early as 12 years old, should not be changed.
The secular community however, quickly noted that there were still two extant species of humans on Earth; Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens. Evolutionary biologist, Professor Richard Dawkins, was immediately contacted about these new findings.
"While it was previously believed that Homo neanderthalensis was extinct, these members of the IRO have very clearly demonstrated that their genome is resilient. This is a terrific day for the scientific community. We are always prepared to change our minds when presented with evidence. It is a pity that we cannot say the same for religion." said Dawkins.
Roman Catholic Archbishop of Port of Spain, Joseph Harris, redeemed a bit of face yesterday, by being honest about how child marriage legitimizes statutory rape. We must all, however, remember that he is still a member of an organization which protects child molesters, demonizes contraception and condemns homosexuals.
Archbishop Burke evaded most of the journalist's questions, demonstrating the agility that was known to be central to her species' survival. In a final attempt to deliver a fatal blow, she insisted that Ms Ramkissoon believe, repent and be baptized, proving Dawkin's meme theory. Imam Mohammed was a bit slower, but he too evaded the questions through much deception. Br. Maharaj was proof of why the species was believed to be extinct.
While these are preliminary findings, genetic testing shall be done to confirm whether observations made have any real bearing.
Thankfully, Homo sapiens is still the dominant human species. There is no telling what would happen if the neanderthals were the majority. What we do know is that religion will go down kicking and screaming as religious leaders continue to thirst for power and control.
As the saying goes, "Glory and gore go hand in hand."
