A group of openly gay men were removed from an El Paso, Texas taco restaurant after two of them were seen making out at one of the tables. Security guards removed the whole group and city police officers sided with the restaurant, saying that they had the right to refuse service to anyone.
Antonio Gonzalez Gonzales was one of the gay protestors who picketed the restaurant the following morning. "I can't believe that they would do this. It wasn't like either of the men whipped out their burritos or anything. Maybe they were passing the salsa orally."
The restaurant is one that has been in business for over fifty years in El Paso. One of the employees, Vivica Hernandez, asked that her name be withheld from publication. She stated that "come on, everyone knows that a taco is another name for a vagina. We're Chico's Tacos, not Sammy's Sausages. If they want to do that stuff, they need to go to Der Weinerschnitzel or some other hot dog stand."
While gays protested and carried picket signs outside of the restaurant, sales did see an increase of 400%. Said member of management Javier Solis, "I guess folks around here are just tired of being politically correct and tired of public affection and just want to eat some good food."
