The hit television show Cops, considered by many as the first reality TV show in the U.S., has finally revealed that it is filmed in front of a live studio audience. The show gives the appearance of reality as cameras follow police officers in various U.S. cities performing their daily duties to serve and protect the public.
Beginning next week during the opening credits a voice will inform the TV viewers that the show takes place in a studio that contains a live audience. "It was something we weren't proud of and thought that it might take away from the total Cops experience," said Dave Altman, Cops' audience applaud sign operator.
The show is planning to celebrate the studio revelation by airing a hilarious bloopers/outtakes episode sometime next month. "We have some great bloopers to win back the audience. Some scenes required 20 or more takes to get it right," said Cops director, Tom McCall.
