Following White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' resignation in protest to the firing of the White House gardener, President Donald Trump named famed The Spoof contributor Etaoin Shrdlu as her replacement.
That Shrdlu is really one of The Spoof's top writers, is largely unknown, even to other The Spoof contributors, since his almost daily squibs appear under many pseudonyms. He has never used his real name.
As justification for the appointment, Trump told a news briefing that Shrdlu has demonstrated, over a period of several years, his ability to write the kind of fake news the president needs to promote his agenda. "I've been reading Shrdlu every morning since I took office. Most of those anti-Trump barbs that appear in The Spoof are his. I can't wait for him to start skewering the Democrats at press briefings. If he had done that on The Spoof, he wouldn't have had any readers."
