Behind the scenes drama threatened the Royal Wedding today with the news that some guests' invitations were withdrawn at the last minute on the grounds that it would have been "inappropriate for them to attend".
The Uruguayan Ambassador to the UK was advised last night that his presence at such a great English celebration would be "unacceptable" after Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda's infamous disallowing of the Frank Lampard 'goal' in the World Cup defeat by Germany.
Moreover, the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin were also told at the last minute that their presence at the wedding would be "unpopular" in light of the decision to make Russia the 2018 World Cup hosts ahead of England.
"Prince William, as head of the English bid, took the bad news personally and he was concerned that he might create a scene if he were to be confronted by some smug Russkie politician", a Royal spokesman admitted.
Curiously enough, there was never consideration given to former Australian test captain Ricky Ponting's invitation being revoked.
