There has been a strong reaction over a pub sign which depicts the Queen with a tattoo on her arm.
The sign has been hanging outside the Queens Arms pub in Acomb, just outside Hexham, since the pub was refurbished.
"Most distasteful and inappropriate" is how a member of the local parish council described the sign.
Thousands of others in Hexham agree with these comments, especially customers of the Shaky Needle tattoo parlour who are disgusted by their passion being linked to the monarchy in any shape or form.
Big Bob, the tattoo parlour owner opined "We are appalled that our ancient profession should be tarnished by any hint or suggestion of a connection with the Royals.
"We are petitioning the local council for the offending cartoon to be removed forthwith.
"There has already been a 20% fall in our business since the sign went up. We can't afford to lose any more business.
"The whole thing's really starting to get under my skin".
