Scottish MPs have backed the Scottish public in demanding the sacking of Jeremy Clarkson for drawing attention to the fact that Gordon Brown is Scottish.
When talking to Australian journalists recently, Clarkson allegedly referred to the British Prime Minister as a "one-eyed Scottish idiot".
One Minister who declined to be named said: "One-eyed idiot would have been sufficient - he didn't need to take it to this extreme."
This new furore has erupted only a few months after Clarkson was criticised for suggesting that all lorry drivers were prostitute-murderers, when in fact he meant to say "all fork-lift truck drivers".
Tempers were continuing to run high in Glasgow where councillors were trying to play down the connection. An angry spokesman lashed out: "Doesn't Clarkson realise we've got enough to deal with in Scotland without him rubbing our noses in the Brown business?"
