There were calls for extra police patrols after midnight in residential areas today, after officers arrested a young couple who were 'doing the dirty' in a bus shelter on their way home from a night out.
The couple - who have not been named, to avoid their becoming instant local celebrities - were discovered performing various sexual acts in the bus shelter which is halfway along Ashenhurst Road, on bus route 222 from Dudley Station to the Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
Two officers from the West Midlands Police force noticed 'movement' in the shelter at about 1:30am, but did not intervene immediately, choosing, instead, to bide their time, and collect evidence on their mobile phones.
After about thirty minutes, the 'lovers' were arrested and taken to Merry Hill police station, where the evidence was reviewed during subsequent interrogations.
Sergeant Bill Voyer, of the West Midlands force, said:
"This is first-class top-notch evidence!"
Local resident, Barbara Curmudgeon, was not happy, however. She said:
"It was just in front of our house. I could hear every 'ooh' and 'aah',, and so could my husband. In fact, he became so aroused, he made me do something dirty for him before he'd go back to sleep."
