The first televised debate between Scottish nationalist Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling happened this week. The two debated whether Scotland should leave the United Kingdom, however many Scottish viewers had expressed their disappointment that Salmond did not use more quotes from the famous Mel Gibson movie "Braveheart". The film sees Scotland fighting England in the middle ages.
"He made some nice points" said unimpressed voter Rory McKinnell "but what we were all really waiting for him to do was to stand on the stage with his face painted blue shouting "FREEEEEEDOM!!!!" Instead Salmond stated later he had avoided quoting the famous nineties film to come across more serious.
